The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a former deputy for allegedly misusing Flock camera surveillance data without authorization.

Officials said the individual was no longer employed by Oakland County at the time of the unauthorized access. The sheriff’s office said it is looking into potential criminal charges and that the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Authorities have not publicly detailed how the system was used. The case has renewed local questions about who can access license-plate reader data and how that information is protected after it is collected.

In recent months, some Metro Detroit communities have moved to limit or end Flock contracts amid privacy concerns, and county commissioners have pressed for clearer oversight of the technology.
