DETROIT, Mich. — Grandma Bob’s, the Corktown pizzeria known for Detroit-style square pies, is opening a second location in Detroit, Michigan’s West Village neighborhood this fall.

The new restaurant will take over the former Marrow butcher shop and restaurant space at 8044 Kercheval. Marrow closed its West Village spot in early June after its owner announced in May that operations would be consolidated at its Eastern Market locations.

A co-owner who lives in nearby Indian Village said in an announcement that he wanted a family-friendly place where neighbors could walk over with their kids, sit on the patio and have pizza and a drink.

The West Village space is bigger than the original, with a larger dining room, an outdoor patio and a private dining room, something the Corktown location does not have. An expanded kitchen and production area will be used to develop menu items for both restaurants. The pizzeria plans to bring its monthly guest-chef series there, in which a visiting chef creates a specialty pie and proceeds go to a nonprofit the chef picks.

Grandma Bob’s opened in 2019 at 2135 Michigan Ave. near Michigan Central Station. It is part of the restaurant group behind The Sugar House, Bad Luck Bar and Honest John’s. Its menu includes bar-style and Detroit-style pizzas with vegan and gluten-free options, cocktails, shakes and desserts.
