DEXTER, Mich. — Construction is underway on Kentwood of Dexter, a 16-unit market-rate condominium project near the northwest corner of Baker Road and Forest Street after a former rental home was demolished downtown.

Five three-story townhouse-style buildings on about three-quarters of an acre will offer ground-level one-bedroom micro-flats of about 650 square feet, two-bedroom homes around 1,850 square feet on upper levels, and three-level townhomes of about 2,500 square feet with room for up to three bedrooms.

Two live-work units will put about 500 to 600 square feet of commercial office space at street level along Baker Road with two-bedroom homes above, a compromise with city rules that call for ground-level commercial uses on that corridor.

Owners expect smaller units to start around 325,000 dollars and the largest near 600,000 dollars. Future residents will be a short walk from downtown stores, the library, parks and the Border-to-Border Trail.

Dexter sits along the Huron River and Mill Creek west of Ann Arbor and is served by Dexter Community Schools, including Dexter High School. The city promotes its historic downtown, river access and Border-to-Border Trail as everyday draws for residents and visitors.
