DETROIT, Mich. — For Detroit-area hunters watching the statewide calendar, Michigan’s regular firearm deer season starts Nov. 15 and closes Nov. 30, per the Department of Natural Resources schedule.

Antlerless tag rules change this year: universal license caps now follow U.P. deer units and Lower Peninsula counties. The limited firearms deer zone disappears, opening all legal firearms across the Lower Peninsula.

U.P. muzzleloader and Lower Peninsula December firearm hunts shrink to three-day windows that begin the first Friday in December, replacing the old 10-day runs. Units 351 and 352 are gone, and so is the U.P. antlerless access permit drawing.

Late extended antlerless hunting and the January bow season are dropped. DNR deer pages still carry antler-point FAQs, chronic wasting disease notes and Deer Range Improvement Program habitat guides.

Hunting and fishing together add about $11.2 billion a year to Michigan’s economy and support roughly 171,000 jobs, with license money sending more than $60 million into conservation work.
