KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Western Michigan volleyball beat Toledo 3-1 on Friday — Western Michigan 3, Toledo 1 on the conference board — as the Broncos handed Toledo its first MAC loss of the season.

Toledo reports said the Broncos took the first two sets, the Rockets answered 25-14 in the third behind a closing 9-0 run, and Western Michigan finished the fourth after the score sat 22-22, closing on a 3-0 burst.

Sierra Pertzborn led Toledo with 13 kills. The Rockets traded early punches in set one, climbed back from deficits in set two, then briefly seized momentum before the Broncos regained control in the decider.

Conference scoreboard notes also showed Miami, Ball State and Bowling Green winning Friday MAC matches. Western Michigan stays in the league race after knocking off a previously unbeaten-in-conference Toledo side.

Both teams continue Mid-American play next week as October conference matches pile up.
