DETROIT, Mich. — Auto parts supplier Dakkota Integrated Systems is shutting down its Detroit factory in two steps, a move that will eliminate 397 jobs after the company lost its contracts for instrument panels on two Stellantis SUVs.

Those dashboards go into Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee models assembled close by at the Detroit Assembly Complex. A filing made with the state on Oct. 19 lays out the timeline: one production line stops Dec. 31, costing 205 workers their jobs, and the second line ends March 31, affecting 192 more.

The workers belong to UAW Local 155. Dakkota put about $55 million into the plant roughly five years ago, and the company says another bidder won the work. Which firm is taking it over has not been made public.

What happens to the 345,000-square-foot building is still undecided. Dakkota has said it might sell the site or find other work for it, though nothing is lined up yet. The company also makes parts for Ford and General Motors plants.
