DETROIT, Mich. — A three-alarm blaze ripped through part of an apartment complex on Detroit’s west side early Thursday, Oct. 22, injuring two residents and a firefighter and forcing four families out of their homes.

Firefighters were called at 5:04 a.m. to the building, which sits near 14th Street on the 2200 block of Webb. Flames were already breaking through the roof when crews pulled up, and firefighters raised ladders at the back of the building to bring down people stuck on upper floors.

Smoke inhalation and minor burns sent two residents, both in their 50s, to Detroit Receiving Hospital. A firefighter who hurt an ankle should make a full recovery, officials said. Every resident was accounted for, according to the Detroit Fire Department.

Roughly 10 units were damaged before crews stopped the spread, which took more than an hour. The Detroit Police Department and DTE also responded.

The Red Cross is helping the displaced households until the property manager can move them into other units. No cause had been released.
