CALGARY, Alberta — The Detroit Red Wings ran into a hot Calgary team on Saturday night and came away with a 4-1 loss at Scotiabank Saddledome, ending a six-game run in which they had earned at least a point every night.

Andrew Copp scored the only Detroit goal, poking a loose puck past goalie Devin Cooley early in the second period to tie it 1-1. Calgary answered with three unanswered goals, two of them on the power play, while Detroit went 0-for-2 with the extra skater.

Joel Farabee led the Flames with a goal and two assists, and Matvei Gridin added a goal and a helper. Zayne Parekh and Ryan Strome also scored. Cooley stopped 28 shots for his third win in a row, and John Gibson made 21 saves for Detroit.

Coach Todd McLellan called it one of the poorer nights of the season for his group in terms of execution, pointing to passes that missed their targets and the gap on special teams.

Detroit falls to 4-4-3. It was the first regulation loss for the Red Wings in seven games and snapped an eight-game winning run against Calgary that dated to February 2023. Calgary improved to 4-6-0 with its third straight win.
