DETROIT, Mich. — Viktor Arvidsson had a night to remember Thursday, scoring three goals and assisting on the other as the Detroit Red Wings handled the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 on home ice.

It was the sixth hat trick of the forward’s career, and the win stretched Detroit’s recent run to 5-1-1 across its last seven games. The Red Wings came into the night at 5-4-3, playing without Dylan Larkin, whom the club suspended without pay before puck drop.

Chicago struck first when Connor Bedard put home a rebound at 5:59 of the opening period. Detroit came up empty on three power plays before Arvidsson pulled it even midway through the second, redirecting a point shot from William Wallinder at 7:31.

Goaltender John Gibson kept it level later in the period, turning away Frank Nazar on a penalty shot with his pad. Gibson finished with 18 saves.

Lucas Raymond gave the Red Wings the lead on a power play 69 seconds into the third, with former Detroit forward Patrick Kane sitting in the box for high sticking. Arvidsson then knocked in a rebound with 4:34 to go and capped his night with an empty-net goal. Alex DeBrincat set up two goals.

The night carried extra meaning for Kane, who spent three seasons in Detroit before signing with Chicago in free agency this summer. It was his first game back in the city since the move, and he has said he has only good things to say about his time with the Red Wings and their fans.

Chicago, which entered at 4-8-0 for the second-worst record in the league, fell to 0-5 on the road. The Blackhawks now head out on a road swing that starts in Boston.
