DETROIT, Mich. — Sunday brings Detroit three ways to mark Dia de Muertos, from a morning race in Southwest Detroit to the last day of a popular museum display of ofrendas.

The Southwest Detroit Business Association stages its Run of the Dead from 7 a.m. to noon Nov. 1 at Patton Park Recreation Center, 2301 Woodmere St. Runners, walkers and spectators are all welcome, and the day doubles as the yearly fundraiser for COMPAS, the group’s youth arts and music programming.

Nearby, Woodmere Cemetery at 9400 West Fort Street holds a free family gathering from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can take remembrance photos at an ofrenda in the morning, and a food truck serves lunch from noon to 2 p.m. Guests check in at the service office.

Across town, the Detroit Institute of Arts closes its 14th annual Ofrendas exhibition Sunday. The show, which opened Sept. 26, showcases altars made by area artists and residents. Partners include the Mexican consulate in Detroit, the business association and Mexicantown Community Development Corporation.
