DETROIT, Mich. — A child died and five other people were hurt late Saturday when a three-vehicle crash tore through the westbound Davison Freeway near Interstate 75 in Detroit, Michigan State Police said.

Troopers were called to M-8 near I-75 at about 11:45 p.m. on Halloween. Investigators said a silver Chevrolet Impala struck the back of another vehicle, and that driver then lost control and hit a third car.

Six people were riding in the Impala. The child was thrown from the car and later died at a hospital. Officials have not released the age of the child. The five other people from the Impala were taken to hospitals with injuries that ranged from minor to critical.

The Impala driver was arrested, suspected of impaired driving that caused a death, and remained hospitalized Sunday morning for crash injuries. State police said investigators are still piecing together what led to the collision.
