Despite these efforts, challenges persist, as evidenced by a recent incident where approximately 8,500 DTE customers were left without power following severe weather conditions characterized by high winds and rain. Crews deployed a temporary substation in Newberry, Michigan, to restore power after a transformer issue in a village substation led to widespread outages. In response to the situation, cooling and charging stations were established for the residents impacted by the power interruption in Newberry.

The areas most significantly affected by these power outages were Oakland, Macomb, and Genesee counties. While DTE Energy has faced scrutiny for its performance, Consumers Energy reported that there were no lingering power outages in its service areas following the recent storm event.
