Grosse Pointe Park – The community is in mourning following the deaths of two longtime residents, Patricia Ann Carroll-Adams and Paul Edward Youngblood, who both touched the lives of many individuals through their warmth and dedication to family, friends, and the community.

Patricia Ann Carroll-Adams, affectionately known as Patti, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on December 5, 1934, in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan. Patti graduated from Dominican High School and went on to earn a degree from the University of Detroit. Over her extensive career, she devoted over 40 years to St. John Hospital, where she created lasting connections with patients and staff alike.

Patti was married to Edward Joseph Carroll for 42 years before marrying Vaughn Adams with whom she spent the last 12 years of her life. Throughout her lifetime, she was a loving mother to a total of 12 children, and she proudly welcomed 32 grandchildren. Patti was predeceased by her two husbands, her parents Mary Olive Steiner and Dr. Timothy Francis Lynch, and her siblings James, Terrance, and Mary Louise Henry.

She is survived by her sister Suzanne M. (Thomas) Lessing and a large family that includes her children Mary Beth, Darcy, Matthew, Daniel, Anne, Laura, and Michael, as well as Vaughn’s children Paul, John, Mary, Theresa, and James. A visitation in honor of Patti will be held at Verheyden Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe Park on Thursday, September 25, from 1 – 8 p.m., followed by a Rosary Service scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Her funeral Mass will be conducted at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Detroit on Friday, September 26, at 10 a.m.

In addition to Patti’s passing, the community also remembers Paul Edward Youngblood, who departed this world peacefully at the age of 63 on May 16, 2025, in the comfort of his home. Paul is survived by his wife, Steph; his daughters Caitlin Youngblood and Lauren (Ryan) Gunderson; and his two granddaughters, Samantha and Katherine Gunderson. He was also a devoted pet owner, leaving behind three beloved pets: Wellington, Moose, and Piggy.

Paul had a remarkable family, which includes his sister Marilyn Dillon, brother Gerald (Mary), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Edna Youngblood and his brother Thomas (Rosalie). Known for his infectious humor, Paul was often described as the funniest person in the room. His dedication to his family, combined with his passion for the Detroit Tigers, defined his vibrant personality and engaged influence within the community.

Paul is remembered as a loyal partner, beloved uncle, best friend, proud father, and adoring grandfather. In his memory, donations can be made to I Heart Dogs Rescue and Animal Haven or Detroit Dog Rescue. A celebration of life for Paul will be held at a later date, allowing friends and family to honor the joy he brought to their lives.

The community of Grosse Pointe Park has come together to support the families of both Patricia and Paul as they honor their memories and the positive impacts they made throughout their lives. As the town grieves their loss, it also celebrates the rich legacies left behind by two cherished members of the community.
