Youngstown, OH – Senior Taylor Berry led the Youngstown State Penguins to a 4-2 victory over the Detroit Mercy Titans on Saturday, scoring two goals and providing one assist in a game marked by strong performances from both teams. Berry’s second goal of the match was the game-winner, contributing significantly to Youngstown State’s success in the match.

This victory improved the Penguins’ overall record to 3-8-1 and their Horizon League record to 2-1-1, while the Titans fell to 2-9-1 overall, remaining winless in league play with a record of 0-3-1.

The Penguins took an early lead when freshman Kamryn Rosa scored in the 16th minute, finding the net shortly after a goal kick. However, Detroit Mercy responded with goals in the 21st and 51st minutes, momentarily pulling ahead 2-1. Berry equalized with a penalty kick less than a minute into the second half, bringing the score to 2-2. She then netted the eventual game-winning goal in the 60th minute, assisted by Baylee Williams and Camille Bultel.

Rounding out the scoring for Youngstown State was sophomore Sara Felder, who secured a fourth goal shortly thereafter, capitalizing on a pass from Bultel following a header from Berry.

Berry’s two goals marked the first time a Youngstown State player has scored twice in a game since Chloe Weiland accomplished the feat against Purdue Fort Wayne in 2024. With these goals, Berry is now tied for eighth all-time at YSU with 11 career goals and ranks tied for fifth all-time with 31 career points. She joins an exclusive group of only 12 players in program history to achieve a minimum of 10 career goals.

Freshman Kamryn Rosa also had a noteworthy performance, scoring her goal in the match and continuing to make her presence felt on the team. Rosa has now netted in three of the last four games, and her four goals this season are the most by a Youngstown State freshman since Marcella Sizer recorded five goals in 2019. Camille Bultel contributed significantly as well, assisting on two of the four goals scored by the Penguins, while Baylee Williams added another assist to the tally.

Looking ahead, the Youngstown State Penguins are scheduled to face Wright State on Saturday, October 4, at 6 p.m. The match will take place at Alumni Field at Rinzler Student Sports Complex in Dayton, Ohio, where they will look to build on their recent success. The Penguins aim to maintain their momentum in the league as they strive for improvement in their season standing.

This match showcased the determination and skill of the Youngstown State team, highlighting the contributions of both seasoned players like Berry and promising newcomers such as Rosa. Their efforts on the field propelled the Penguins to a crucial victory against a conference rival.
