MONROE – Adam Kipf, the head coach of Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central (SMCC) High School, has earned recognition as the Week Five recipient of the 2025 Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Week Program, which is presented by Carhartt. This award celebrates high school football coaches throughout Michigan who exhibit success both on and off the field, promoting the development of student-athletes’ character, health, and safety.
Kipf’s Falcons achieved an impressive victory against Carleton Airport, winning 54-24, which has elevated their season record to 5-0. During this period, the Falcons have been exceptionally productive, amassing a total of 208 points across five games, resulting in an average of 41.6 points per game. In a remarkable achievement, SMCC is currently ranked #1 in Division 7.
The Falcons are set to continue their campaign on October 3, 2025, when they face Milan in their 31st all-time matchup. The team’s recent success seems to be a direct reflection of Kipf’s coaching abilities and dedication to the program.
Coaching for over two decades, Kipf has been at the helm of the SMCC football program for 20 seasons, including 11 as the head coach. His successful tenure has led the Falcons to playoff appearances in nine seasons, with notable regional appearances in 2017, 2018, and 2022. Under his leadership, the Falcons secured a Division 7 state championship in 2019, and were runners-up in 2024.
Kipf’s overall coaching record stands impressively at 85 wins and 33 losses, resulting in a winning percentage of 72%. His deep connection to the school is further emphasized by the fact that he is also a graduate of Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central and currently teaches social studies there.
Expressing his thoughts on the program’s success, Kipf mentioned that the team’s motivation stems from the lost opportunity during the 2024 state championship. This intrinsic drive is likely contributing to their current outstanding performance, as the Falcons strive to maintain their winning streak.
The Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Week Program is now in its 29th year. The initiative not only acknowledges excellent coaching but also fulfills a primary goal of promoting the development of high school football in Michigan. This season alone, the program plans to allocate a total of $12,000 to support various high school football initiatives across the state.
Every coach recognized during the regular season will receive a $1,000 donation to their school’s football program, whilst the ultimate Coach of the Year will be awarded a $3,000 donation at the end of the season. In addition, all winners will receive a certificate signed by Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
The program has significantly impacted high school football in Michigan, having awarded over $515,000 to football programs since its inception. For more information regarding the program, inquiries can be directed to Chris Fritzsching, the Lions’ Executive Director of Football Education. This ongoing initiative not only recognizes excellence in high school coaching but also underlines the broader commitment to nurturing football talent throughout the community.
