Attendees can explore a range of activities and vendors during the expo, designed to appeal to those interested in the unusual and extraordinary.

On Saturday, July 12, the expo will welcome visitors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while on Sunday, July 13, hours will extend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission prices vary: $11.55 for general admission, $159.35, which includes a Sunday entomology class and general admission, and $344.11 for access to Saturday’s taxidermy class alongside general admission.

Activities and Classes

Alongside an extensive variety of vendors, the expo will feature educational classes aimed at enhancing the understanding and appreciation of oddities. A highlight of the event is the designated Taxidermy Day on Saturday, where a six-hour beginner class will be hosted by Sleeping Sirens, a Florida-based oddities shop. Class participants will have the opportunity to work with a rabbit hide or a skinned, cleaned, and tanned raccoon.

On Sunday, classes will focus on entomology, specifically on beetles and spiders. Attendees will learn about safe collection, handling practices, and proper techniques for pinning and mounting insects for display. Each entomology class is priced at $150, while the taxidermy class on Saturday is available for $325. All materials and tools necessary for class participation will be provided, and tickets include general admission to the expo.

Vendor Offerings

The expo will showcase an impressive lineup of vendors selling a wide array of items. Visitors can expect to find taxidermy, preserved specimens, original artwork, horror and Halloween-inspired pieces, antiques, handcrafted oddities, creepy clothing, unique jewelry, and much more. Vendors will also offer animal skulls and bones as well as funeral collectibles, making the expo a unique shopping experience for enthusiasts and curious individuals alike.

Community and Sustainability

Organized by Michelle and Tony Cozzaglio, who initially founded the Oddities & Curiosities Expo in Oklahoma, the event aims to create a community space for those with a passion for the peculiar. The expo’s ethos promotes a DIY culture and emphasizes the support of small businesses and artists within the oddities community. All items available for sale at the expo are ethically and sustainably sourced, ensuring responsible practices in the collection and sale of unusual goods.

The event is expected to draw hundreds of oddity vendors and artists from across the country, establishing Detroit as a center for enthusiasts of the extraordinary this summer. With a diverse selection of offerings and interactive classes, the Oddities & Curiosities Expo is poised to become a cornerstone event for those interested in the offbeat and unusual.
