Virginia Beach, VA – Alan Wiseman, a beloved husband, father, and dedicated community member, passed away on August 21, 2025, at home in hospice care in Virginia Beach. He was surrounded by his wife, Holly, and their two daughters, Sasha and Anya, at the time of his death.
Alan Wiseman was born on April 6, 1971, in Detroit, MI. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Holly, as well as his daughters and his parents, Richard and Carole Wiseman. His only sibling, Glen Wiseman, along with two aunts and seven cousins, also survive him. Additionally, lifelong friend Bendera Howard and “other” mother Constance Howard were close to him throughout his life.
Alan’s educational journey began in Detroit, where he attended Wayne Elementary School and Dorothy Fisher Magnet Middle School. He later continued his education at Berkshire Middle School and Groves High School in Beverly Hills, MI, from which he graduated in 1989. During his school years, he worked various jobs, including mowing lawns, delivering newspapers, and working in the deli at Kroger. He was actively involved in drama during high school, where he made commercials and took on the role of Tony in the production of “West Side Story.” He also shared special moments with his family, such as a memorable backpacking trip in Great Britain with his cousin Marla the summer before his high school graduation.
After high school, Alan attended Oakland Community College and later transferred to Michigan State University, graduating in 1993 with a BA in Sociology and Anthropology. While at MSU, he further enriched his education by studying at Cambridge University and in Paris, France. During his time at university, he worked at Emil’s Restaurant and managed a video store. He continued his academic pursuits in Forensic Anthropology at Western Michigan University.
In 2002, Alan moved to Virginia Beach with Holly in search of “An Endless Summer.” He worked from home as a Project Manager/Innovator for Hewlett-Packard, allowing him to spend quality time with his family. He later joined Elevance Healthcare (formerly Anthem) in 2015 as a Senior Portfolio Director, where he was recognized for his dedication and leadership in his professional endeavors.
In addition to his professional achievements, Alan was passionate about various hobbies. He enjoyed gardening, bike riding, canoeing on Stumpy Lake, and attending movies and concerts. His pride in his children was evident as he actively volunteered for their school events and field trips. He and Holly celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary in Majorca, Spain, creating cherished memories that highlighted their lasting love.
Alan was known to maintain close connections with his friends and relatives, often sharing updates about his travels and his daughters’ accomplishments through online platforms. His warm spirit and commitment to his loved ones left a significant impact on those around him.
To honor Alan’s life and legacy, Richard and Carole Wiseman have invited the community to an Open House at their home on September 28, 2025, from 1-4 PM, where friends and family are encouraged to remember Alan and share their stories.
Alan Wiseman’s legacy will be remembered through the love and joy he brought to his family, friends, and community. His contributions, both personally and professionally, have left an indelible mark that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
