Detroit – Big Sean, the acclaimed rapper and Detroit native, is set to perform a special free concert to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his landmark album “Dark Sky Paradise.” The event, titled “A Night of Dark Sky Paradise,” will take place on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Saint Andrews Hall. This marks a historic occasion as it will be the first time he performs the album in its entirety.
Doors for the concert will open at 8 p.m., and the performance is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Thanks to sponsorship from Chime, a banking app, tickets to the concert will be free of charge. Fans interested in attending must sign up for access to tickets, which will be available starting at 3 p.m. EST on Friday, May 9, 2025. Registration requires a cellphone number, and interested individuals can sign up at laylo.com/bigsean.
The announcement of the concert was made via an Instagram post on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Big Sean’s “Dark Sky Paradise” album was originally released on February 24, 2015, and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart. The album features popular singles such as “IDFWU,” “Paradise,” and “Blessings.”
In April 2025, fans expressed disappointment over the absence of Detroit dates in Big Sean’s summer tour with fellow artist Russ. This led Big Sean to hint at a special event for his hometown, further building anticipation. Notably, he has performed several times in Detroit over the past year, including a standout appearance during the NFL Draft and at the reopening concert for Michigan Central Station. His last full public concert before this announcement took place at the Mo Pop festival at Hart Plaza in July 2022.
This upcoming concert will mark Big Sean’s first headlining ticketed performance in Detroit since 2017. He recently released a new album titled “Better Me Than You” in August 2024 and published a self-help book earlier this year, “Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace.” Additionally, “Dark Sky Paradise” was re-released on vinyl earlier in 2025 to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
The themes of the concert reflect Big Sean’s focus on family, love, and financial empowerment, which aligns with Chime’s mission to uplift underserved communities. Beyond the music, the event will coincide with the launch of a new YouTube series titled “Mama, I Made It,” featuring Big Sean and his mother, Myra Anderson. This combination of musical celebration and personal storytelling highlights Big Sean’s dedication to his roots and personal growth, as well as his commitment to giving back to the Detroit community.
Fans are eagerly awaiting this unique opportunity to experience Big Sean’s music and message live. With its blend of celebration, community focus, and musical homage to one of his most successful projects, “A Night of Dark Sky Paradise” aims to resonate deeply with attendees in a meaningful way.
