An empty stage after the announcement of concert cancellations by Billy Joel.
Billy Joel has canceled all his concerts scheduled for 2025, including a collaboration with Stevie Nicks in Detroit. This decision follows his diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, affecting his health and performance capabilities. Affected fans will receive refunds, and Joel remains hopeful for a return to the stage after undergoing treatment and therapy.
Renowned musician Billy Joel has canceled all concerts scheduled for 2025, including a highly anticipated performance with Stevie Nicks at Ford Field in Detroit on November 15. The decision comes after Joel received a diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition affecting his health and ability to perform.
The announcement was made on May 23, 2025. Joel cited persistent complications related to hearing, vision, and balance that have intensified following recent performances. As part of his treatment plan, he is undergoing specialized physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from any performances until further notice.
In total, Billy Joel has canceled 17 shows scheduled throughout 2025, which also included performances with other prominent artists like Sting and Rod Stewart. His concert at Ford Field was initially planned for March 29 but had already been postponed due to medical issues prior to this recent development.
Fans who purchased tickets for the canceled shows will automatically receive refunds to the original payment method used during the purchase, ensuring that even those who transferred tickets will be compensated.
Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) involves the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the skull, which can create pressure on the brain. This condition is more commonly diagnosed in older adults, particularly those over the age of 65. Fortunately, NPH is often treatable, offering a pathway to recovery for those affected.
Billy Joel’s last performance took place on February 22, 2025, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, where he experienced a fall on stage. Following surgery and recovery, he aims to return to performing, with his next scheduled concert set for July 5, 2026, in Pittsburgh. Other affected venues from the canceled tour include locations in Toronto, Syracuse, Salt Lake City, Edinburgh, and Liverpool, with dates expected to push into 2026.
Despite these setbacks, Joel has expressed his gratitude to fans for their support and remains hopeful about resuming his touring schedule in the future. Previously, he performed in Michigan at Comerica Park on July 9, 2022, and looked forward to reuniting with his audience.
As Billy Joel navigates his health challenges, fans across the globe will have to wait for his return to the stage. With continued medical treatment and therapy, there is optimism surrounding his recovery and future performances.
