The Comedy Bar is set to open in Detroit on February 14, 2023, coinciding with Valentine’s Day. Located in The Norwood, the venue will feature a vintage atmosphere and diverse comedian lineups, aiming to foster community through humor. Co-owners Kyle and Sahar Lane look to expand locations while contributing positively to the local arts scene. A new comedy club, The Comedy Bar, is set to open in Detroit on February 14, 2023, coinciding with Valentine’s Day. The venue is located in the lower level of The Norwood, a restored historic site situated at 6531 Woodward Ave. in Detroit’s New Center area. This marks the first location of The Comedy Bar outside of its original home in Chicago, where it was founded in 2011.
The Comedy Bar’s co-owners, Kyle and Sahar Lane, who also run the original Chicago location, are excited to expand their business further. Their plans include establishing up to a dozen locations by the end of the year. Sahar Lane has expressed optimism about bringing the club to Detroit, highlighting the city’s supportive environment for small businesses and the arts.
The Comedy Bar aims to present a diverse array of comedians from Detroit and other regions, focusing on humor as a shared aspect of communication that can bring people together. Kyle Lane indicated that the venue will feature an “art deco, Great Gatsby” atmosphere, designed to create an underground vibe reminiscent of New York comedy clubs.
The venue is capable of seating approximately 200 guests, and it will offer a craft cocktail menu. Guests will be required to make a minimum purchase of two items during their visit.

The Norwood venue has a rich historical background, originally built as a theater in 1915.
