Big Sean performing with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra

News Summary

Big Sean is set to headline ‘A Night With the Orchestra’ at Orchestra Hall, featuring collaborations with notable Detroit hip-hop artists and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The concert aims to celebrate the legacy of J Dilla with a new orchestral arrangement, conducted by Tim Davies. Proceeds will benefit local charities. Tickets go on sale soon, amidst growing anticipation for this musical fusion that emphasizes Detroit’s musical significance.

Detroit is set to host a unique musical experience as Big Sean headlines “A Night With the Orchestra” concert at Orchestra Hall on June 29, 2024. The event will feature a collaboration between the popular hip-hop artist and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO), aiming to blend the compelling sounds of hip-hop with orchestral arrangements.

Joining Big Sean at this groundbreaking event will be several notable Detroit hip-hop artists, including Skilla Baby, Tee Grizzley, Illa J, Nasaan, and Queen Naija. The concert aims to celebrate the legacy of J Dilla, an influential late hip-hop producer, by debuting a new orchestral arrangement in his honor. The concert will be conducted by Tim Davies, an Australian musician known for his innovative orchestral compositions, who will also be responsible for writing the orchestral charts for the performance.

Tickets for the concert will be available starting on May 29, 2024, at 10 a.m., with prices beginning at $75. A presale is currently ongoing and will conclude on May 28, 2024, at 10 p.m. Doors for the concert will open at 6 p.m. on the day of the event.

Notably, the concert also serves a philanthropic purpose, as proceeds will benefit the Detroit Pistons Foundation, the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan, and Big Sean’s Sean Anderson Foundation. This commitment to community support is in line with Big Sean’s ongoing role as the Creative Director of Innovation for the Detroit Pistons, a position he has held since 2020.

This concert is part of a broader trend of hip-hop and orchestral collaborations, with another event titled “Jeezy & Friends” scheduled for September 12, 2024, at the Fox Theatre. Such collaborations seek to explore and expand the boundaries of musical genres, offering audiences a fresh perspective on both hip-hop and classical music.

Big Sean has been active in the community, recently celebrating the 10-year anniversary of his acclaimed album “Dark Sky Paradise” with a free concert earlier in June 2024. His latest album, “Better Me Than You,” was released last year, showcasing his evolving artistry. Additionally, earlier in 2024, he published a self-help book titled “Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace”, reflecting his dedication to personal growth and community empowerment.

As anticipation builds for “A Night With the Orchestra,” fans eagerly await what promises to be a memorable fusion of hip-hop and symphonic sounds in the heart of Detroit, reinforcing the city’s central role in the evolution of music.
