In a troubling incident on Arcola Avenue, two children, aged 8 and 7, were injured in a drive-by shooting when multiple assailants fired at their home. Both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are receiving medical care. Detroit – Two children were injured in a drive-by shooting that occurred early Thursday morning, July 31, 2025, in the 7000 block of Arcola Avenue. The victims, an 8-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, were struck by gunfire when passengers in two black pickup trucks opened fire at their home around 6:20 a.m.
Authorities reported that the boy suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, while the girl was shot in the foot. Fortunately, both children were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and are currently in stable condition. The parents and additional children were present in the home at the time of the attack but escaped unharmed.
The Detroit Police Department has initiated an investigation into the shooting, which they suspect may have been targeted. Officers discovered multiple shell casings at the scene, although the exact number of rounds fired remains unconfirmed. Bullet holes were found in several windows of the home, with at least 12 bullet holes documented in one window alone.
Local residents reported an alarming increase in gun violence in the area, with one neighbor estimating that around 20 gunshots were fired during the incident. This particular home has been labeled a “problem house,” leading to speculation that the shooting could have been avoided. Concerns regarding the condition and management of the property have been voiced, especially since the management company, New Detroit PM, LLC, has not addressed safety complaints about the house, which had not been boarded up following the death of the previous tenant in October 2024.
Residents expressed growing frustration with the rental agency’s inadequate responses to safety issues, contributing to a sense of insecurity in the neighborhood. Calls for better management of such properties have been made repeatedly, as locals believe that proper interventions could prevent further incidents.
