Law enforcement officers conducting a drug raid in Detroit

News Summary

A large-scale drug raid by the County of Macomb Enforcement Team has resulted in the apprehension of a convicted felon and the seizure of thousands of pills, firearms, and cash. The operation recovered over 10,000 pills, including fake fentanyl and methamphetamine valued at around $50,000. Authorities also found 12 firearms, five of which were stolen, and seized $35,000 in cash. This crackdown is part of an ongoing effort by law enforcement to combat drug-related crime in the Detroit area.

Detroit – A significant drug raid orchestrated by the County of Macomb Enforcement Team (COMET) on May 14, 2025, has led to the arrest of a convicted felon and the seizure of thousands of drugs, firearms, and cash. Authorities detained the suspect at his residence, where they discovered over 10,000 pills, including fake fentanyl and methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of around $50,000.

During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered 12 firearms, five of which were reported stolen. Additionally, they seized $35,000 in cash from the location. The suspect is currently in custody and is awaiting charges, with a possible arraignment scheduled for the upcoming Friday.

This raid is part of a broader initiative by state police-led task forces aiming to tackle drug-related crime in the area. In previous raids, COMET has demonstrated its commitment to dismantling narcotics operations, having executed a search warrant on April 15 that resulted in the confiscation of a half-pound of fentanyl, half an ounce of cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, additional firearms, and cash along with drug packaging materials.

Furthermore, on May 12, COMET collaborated with Roseville police to apprehend a suspect linked to a local drug trafficking organization, leading to the seizure of around 2,000 pills and various narcotics, alongside over $20,000 in cash. Earlier, on March 27, further raids had yielded cocaine and fentanyl valued at approximately $30,000, as well as several firearms, including conversions for Glock handguns.

In 2024, federal officials reported a significant decline in drug overdose deaths across the United States, with approximately 30,000 fewer fatalities compared to the prior year, marking the largest recorded one-year decrease. This statistic underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat the opioid crisis and drug-related violence.

COMET operates as an undercover task force consisting of officers from various agencies, including the Michigan State Police and local law enforcement partners. The comprehensive strategy has led to increased vigilance and resource pooling amongst departments to combat the rising tide of drug offenses.

While the investigation from the latest raid continues, authorities plan to apply for the forfeiture of the seized cash. The operation is one of many aimed at curtailing illegal drug trafficking and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.

As operations continue across the region, law enforcement is coordinating with community programs to educate individuals about the dangers of drug use and the importance of reporting suspicious activities. The overarching goal remains clear: to eradicate drug trafficking networks and enhance the safety of Detroit residents and its surrounding areas.
