Detroit is preparing to welcome the NoMad Detroit, a luxury hotel that will occupy the top floors of the historic Michigan Central Station. This marks NoMad’s first U.S. property under Hilton and aims to enhance the area’s reputation as a premier destination. With approximately 180 rooms, including 30 suites, the hotel will feature luxury wellness facilities and a signature restaurant. This initiative showcases a collaboration between Ford and Hilton to achieve a dynamic blend of luxury and local culture.
Detroit is set to host the NoMad Detroit, a luxury lifestyle hotel scheduled to open in 2027, within the iconic Michigan Central Station. This marks the first NoMad property in the United States, under the Hilton brand, aimed at enhancing the area’s reputation as a premier destination.
The NoMad Detroit will feature approximately 180 rooms, including 30 suites, and will occupy the top five floors (floors 14-18) of the Station at Michigan Central, a 30-acre redevelopment project focused on technology and culture located in Corktown. The hotel will offer luxury wellness facilities alongside a signature restaurant and bar situated in a restored historic carriage house.
This initiative results from a collaboration between Ford Motor Company and Hilton, aiming to reshape the historic train depot while creating a global innovation hub and a symbol of Detroit’s future.
Originally opened in 1913, the Michigan Central Station was designed by the same architects responsible for New York City’s Grand Central Terminal. With the opening of NoMad Detroit, it will celebrate its 110-year history by hosting overnight guests for the first time.
The announcement for the new hotel follows nearly a year after the station’s restoration, which reopened in June 2024. Since then, Michigan Central Station has attracted nearly 300,000 visitors and currently houses multinational corporations, small businesses, and startups, highlighting a significant transformation in the area.
Hilton views the NoMad Detroit project as a strategic expansion of its luxury portfolio, showcasing the brand’s commitment to integrating local culture into its offerings. The hotel’s interior design will emphasize local artists and makers, reflecting Detroit’s designation as a UNESCO City of Design, and enriching the guest experience.
NoMad Detroit is part of a broader trend of luxury hotel openings in Detroit, which also includes new establishments such as the AC Hotel Detroit and the Godfrey Hotel Detroit, alongside upcoming projects like a 600-room JW Marriott. The addition of NoMad is expected to further enhance Detroit’s appeal as a travel destination, as the state attracts more than 16 million visitors annually.
The hotel will be integrated into the Hilton Honors loyalty program, allowing members to redeem points and access exclusive discounts, which is expected to drive visits from Hilton loyalty members.
Various stakeholders in the project express enthusiasm about the hotel’s potential to provide world-class hospitality while paying homage to the history of Michigan Central Station. The initiative embodies a forward-looking vision that aims to combine luxury with the rich historical narrative of the space.
The NoMad Detroit is anticipated not only to amplify Detroit’s evolving hospitality landscape but also serve as a catalyst for future developments within the area, solidifying the city’s status as a vibrant center for business and culture.
