Detroit – Two Detroit-area men, Javon Timarious Hawk, 21, and Joseph Lavar Houston, 23, face serious charges in connection with the shooting death of their cousin, Michael Davis, 23, of Hamtramck. Both men have been charged with first-degree murder and felony firearm offenses following the incident that occurred early on July 8 at an apartment on East Outer Drive.

Michael Davis was discovered inside the front entrance of the apartment, unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene. Investigators quickly identified Hawk and Houston as suspects in the fatal shooting, leading to their arrests several weeks later. Hawk was apprehended on July 30, while Houston was taken into custody on August 4.

In addition to the murder and felony firearm charges, Houston is also facing a charge for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Both suspects have been taken into custody and remanded to jail after their respective arraignments. Hawk was arraigned on August 1, and Houston on August 5, at the 36th District Court in Detroit.

Upcoming court proceedings have been scheduled for both suspects. Hawk’s next probable cause conference is set for August 11, with a preliminary examination to follow on August 18, both at 8:30 a.m. Houston’s probable cause hearing is scheduled for August 13, and his preliminary exam will take place on August 20, also at 8:30 a.m. If convicted of first-degree murder, both men could face life in prison.

Details surrounding the motive for the shooting remain unclear as authorities have not disclosed any information. The investigation into the circumstances leading to Michael Davis’s death continues, although the timeline of events surrounding the shooting has been established.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about gun violence in urban areas. As crime remains a significant issue within Detroit, this case brings attention to the tragic consequences that can arise from disputes within families and neighborhoods. Law enforcement officials are urging community members to assist in addressing gun violence and related crimes, as the investigation progresses.

In summary, both Hawk and Houston are facing severe legal repercussions as their cases unfold in the Michigan court system. With the possibility of life sentences looming over them, the community continues to seek answers regarding the motivations behind this tragic event.
