A glimpse into a vintage radio studio, capturing the essence of a broadcasting legend's farewell.
Guy Gordon bids farewell to WJR after decades in Detroit broadcasting. Facing a significant pay cut, he reflects on his career and looks forward to new opportunities while cherishing time with family.
Detroit is saying goodbye to a familiar voice as longtime broadcaster Guy Gordon bids farewell to the airwaves of WJR after a significant shift in the station’s operations. In a recent announcement, it’s been made clear that salary cuts prompted Gordon’s decision to leave a station he has called home.
Guy Gordon’s journey in broadcasting began back in 1984, just moments after the Detroit Tigers had their glorious World Series win. Over those four decades, he has become a staple in the Detroit media scene, working across various platforms, including WXYZ-TV and WDIV-TV. His remarkable career includes a solid stretch as an anchor at WDIV from 2004 until 2016 before he transitioned to WJR in 2017.
Since November 2023, Gordon has hosted WJR’s morning show, stepping into the role after the beloved veteran Paul W. Smith. However, the winds of change have swept through the station, leading Gordon to face a tough decision regarding his future. He was presented with what many would see as a challenging choice: a hefty 60% pay cut while being moved from his coveted morning slot to the afternoons.
As the community processes this loss, it also celebrates the impact Guy Gordon has made during his long tenure in broadcasting. Thank you, Guy, for the many years of service, and best of luck in your future adventures!
