Detroit, MI – The Downtown Detroit Partnership has announced a lineup of exciting free events for the summer of 2025. Residents and visitors can look forward to a variety of activities that highlight community engagement and the vibrant atmosphere of downtown parks. Key events include movie nights, a tacos and trivia series, and outdoor yoga classes, all designed to foster social connections and enjoyment in the city’s public spaces.
David Cowan, the chief public spaces officer for the Downtown Detroit Partnership, underscored the organization’s commitment to enhancing the experience of parks as vital components in linking the community and providing enriching activities. The nonprofit organization manages the programming, operations, and restoration of 18 parks in Downtown Detroit, aiming to create memorable moments for everyone.
One of the focal locations for many summer events is Campus Martius Park, positioned at 800 Woodward Avenue. This year, the park will be revitalized with the return of The Beach at Campus Martius Park, featuring a new layout alongside live music and cocktails. The two-story open-air venue known as Cabana 313 will introduce a menu that showcases seasonal foods and drinks.
A highlight of summer will be the Tacos and Trivia nights, scheduled every Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting June 17. These friendly competitions aim to foster community spirit with no registration required for participants. Additionally, the popular Movie Nights in the D is set to launch on June 13, featuring a 10-week series with the opening film being “Mufasa: The Lion King.”
The first beach party at Campus Martius will take place on June 28, themed “Island Time Beach Party,” and will feature local DJs and a Hawaiian shirt contest to encourage community participation and fun.
Moreover, Campus Kids Days, presented by Corewell Health, will provide hands-on activities for children on select Sundays from July 13 to October 5. This initiative aims to engage families and make downtown parks a fun environment for all ages.
Wellness enthusiasts will be delighted to know that Citizen Yoga will host “City Glow Yoga,” a silent disco yoga event occurring on select Mondays at Campus Martius Park and Thursdays at Beacon Park. This innovative concept allows participants to engage in yoga practice while enjoying a unique auditory experience.
In addition to the yoga sessions, Cadillac Square will introduce weekly pop-up markets every Thursday starting June 5. These markets will feature local vendors, showcasing handmade goods and diverse cuisines, promoting local entrepreneurship and community interaction.
Beacon Park is anticipated to offer Music & Markets events on June 21, July 26, and August 23, alongside a series of Summer Sundays events that will include brunch, crafts, games, and fitness classes, encouraging a wholesome weekend atmosphere.
Grand Circus Park will welcome monthly themed pup-friendly events throughout the summer, including “Pupnic in the Park” and the “Doggie Pool Paw-ty,” for pet owners and dog lovers to enjoy leisure moments with their furry friends. Additionally, the Bourbon Gardens event will commence on July 10 at Grand Circus Park, featuring jazz performances and themed activities.
Capitol Park will host Citizen Yoga sessions at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and 7 p.m. on Sundays. The park will also feature Sculpt Pilates classes every Friday, focusing on core strength and mindful flows to promote health and wellness in the community.
