Make sure to keep your jackets handy as winter approaches!

Metro Detroit Weather Update: Cooler Temperatures and the Chance of Rain and Snow Next Week

Hey there, Metro Detroiters! As we wrap up a wet week, let’s dive into the latest updates on what you can expect from the weather over the upcoming days.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Looking ahead to Saturday night, keep an eye on the sky! There’s a chance of a stray shower in both Lenawee and Monroe counties, but for most of us, it looks like the rain might take a little break. Overnight temperatures are set to dip quite a bit — expect lows in the upper 20s for those north of I-69, while the rest of Metro Detroit will hover between 30 and 35 degrees. So, if you’re out and about, it might be a good idea to grab a jacket!

As for the wind on Saturday night, it will be a gentle northwesterly breeze at about 5 to 10 mph, not too chilly but cool enough to remind us that winter is not far behind.

Sunday’s Sunshine (and Clouds)

On Sunday morning, we’ll see some glorious periods of sunshine before the clouds roll in during the afternoon. Temperatures will creep up into the lower to mid 40s early in the day, with afternoon highs likely hitting the mid to upper 40s. Those planning to stroll through the parks or enjoy walking trails should definitely bundle up a bit, as we’ll still be feeling that cool breeze with light northerly winds around 5 mph. It’s a great day to get outside, just don’t forget your jacket!

What’s Happening on Monday?

Now, brace yourselves for Monday! A low-pressure system is moving across the Great Lakes, and that means rain and snow showers could dampen our Monday from morning to evening. Expect temperatures to stay in the mid 40s in Metro Detroit and chillier, around 40 degrees, if you’re up in the Thumb area. As the day progresses, those rain and snow showers should ease off by evening, leading to partly to mostly cloudy skies at night. Oh, and get ready for a drop in low temperatures on Monday night to the lower to mid 20s — quite the chill!

Looking Ahead to Tuesday and Beyond

And guess what? Tuesday is bringing even cooler air! We’re looking at a mix of sunshine and clouds throughout the day, but don’t be surprised if a couple of lake-effect snow showers make an appearance. The thermometer is expected to reach around 40 degrees during the day, but by nightfall, we can expect those temperatures to plummet once again into the mid 20s.

Moving into Wednesday, it looks like we’ll warm back up slightly, with temperatures predicted to reach the mid to upper 40s and partly cloudy skies throughout the day. However, make sure you have your umbrellas at the ready! Rain is on the agenda starting Wednesday night, potentially lasting until Thursday night, with a few light showers possible Friday morning as well. Don’t let those rainy days get you down!

Next Weekend’s Forecast

Now, onto more exciting news! If you can believe it, next weekend’s forecast suggests we might rise to temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. Just in time for a wonderful outdoor experience! The average high for this time of year is typically in the mid 50s, and the average low is in the mid 30s. Keep in mind, most gardeners around here wait until after Mother’s Day to plant those sensitive plants and flowers, just to be on the safe side. The last freeze usually occurs around late April for Metro Detroit and early May for Flint.

So, Metro Detroit, stay warm, stay safe, and keep those jackets handy! Until next time, enjoy the weekend, and we’ll keep you updated as the weather changes!
