A 35-year-old man from Detroit was killed on Monday night in a tragic two-vehicle crash linked to suspected drunken driving on Interstate-94. The incident took place near 10 Mile Road in St. Clair Shores at approximately 9:30 p.m.
According to reports from Michigan State Police, the victim was the driver of a vehicle that had been involved in a single-vehicle crash moments prior. After the accident, he exited his car, which had come to a stop on the left shoulder of the freeway. While he was outside of his vehicle, a second driver lost control and struck him. The force of the impact caused the victim to fall onto the roadway, where he was subsequently struck by a second vehicle.
Emergency responders quickly transported the victim to a nearby hospital; however, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Authorities confirmed that the first driver who hit the pedestrian, a 30-year-old man also from Detroit, was arrested for operating while intoxicated (OWI). The second driver involved in the incident was not charged. As of now, the identities of both the deceased and the arrested driver remain undisclosed by law enforcement officials.
