News Summary

Belle Isle has halted all vehicle access as of 4 PM on July 4 due to a surge in visitors for the Ford Fireworks event. While vehicles are restricted, bicycles and pedestrians can still enter the island. The fireworks will commence at 10 PM, with various viewing areas available. Park officials are ensuring safety and comfort, outlining strict regulations for attendees. Street parking will be free after 5 PM, and public transportation options like the Detroit People Mover will be active, providing easy access to the event.

Detroit – Belle Isle is closed to all vehicle traffic as of 4 PM on July 4, 2025, due to a surge in visitors ahead of the highly anticipated Ford Fireworks event. Park officials announced that the closure would remain in effect until 6:10 PM, stating that the island had reached its maximum vehicle capacity.

Although vehicle access is restricted, both bicycles and pedestrians can still enter Belle Isle during this time, enabling them to enjoy the festivities leading up to the fireworks. The Ford Fireworks display is set to begin at 10 PM on June 23, 2025. Popular viewing locations for the event include Hart Plaza, Spirit Plaza, and of course, the island itself.

The park started to experience heavy traffic and reach capacity as early as 2 PM on the day of the event, prompting officials to take action to ensure safety and comfort. Visitors intending to enter Belle Isle with a vehicle should note that entry fees are $14 for Michigan residents who do not possess a recreational passport and $11 for out-of-state visitors.

All attendees should be aware of strict regulations at the viewing areas. Alcohol, tents, pets, fireworks, and drones are prohibited to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all guests. Additionally, minors must be accompanied by an adult after 8 PM on the night of the fireworks.

For those planning to drive to the event, street parking in Detroit will be free after 5 PM. However, visitors must adhere to local regulations, such as prohibitions against blocking fire hydrants and driveways. Key parking options include the Ford Underground Parking Garage and the Eastern Market Garage, both of which will have specific opening hours and fees.

Public transportation is also an option for viewers. The Detroit People Mover will be operational from 6:30 AM to midnight on the event day, with trains running every 4-5 minutes. This provides a convenient alternative to vehicle access, particularly for those attempting to avoid traffic and parking challenges.

Visitors should also prepare for the weather, as the forecast predicts a high temperature of 96 degrees and a low of 78 degrees on the day of the event. Conditions are expected to be sunny with no chances of precipitation, making for a pleasant evening to enjoy the fireworks.

The closure of vehicle access to Belle Isle may be adjusted either earlier or later, depending on traffic conditions, as determined by the Detroit Police Department. Those attending the Ford Fireworks should plan their travel accordingly to ensure they can experience the excitement of this festive event.
