A 42-year-old man from Harper Woods, William Daniel Moore, has been ordered to stand trial for the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Emmanuel Draughan. Moore faces charges including first-degree murder and firearm-related offenses following the March 12 incident on Detroit’s east side, where he allegedly shot the victim multiple times before Draughan succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Moore’s arraignment is set for June 12, with serious potential penalties should he be convicted.
Harper Woods – A 42-year-old man from Harper Woods has been ordered to stand trial for the March 12 shooting death of 21-year-old Emmanuel Draughan. The shooting occurred in the 14700 block of Tacoma Street, where authorities claim Moore produced a handgun and shot Draughan multiple times, resulting in critical injuries to the victim’s chest. After the incident, Draughan was privately transported to a hospital but sadly succumbed to his wounds shortly after arrival.
Moore was apprehended by law enforcement on March 17, only days after the tragic event. He was formally charged on March 31 with several counts, including first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. In addition, he faces two counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony. Following a preliminary examination that took place on May 29, he was bound over for trial.
Moore’s arraignment in Wayne County Circuit Court is scheduled for June 12. If convicted on the first-degree murder charge, he could face a maximum sentence of life in prison. The firearm possession charge comes with a potential five-year sentence, and each count related to felony firearm usage carries a maximum of two years.
Moore’s criminal record is significant, as he has multiple prior convictions that include weapons charges, assault with intent to commit murder, and drug-related offenses. He has previously been convicted for being a felon in possession of a firearm, as well as being a prisoner in possession of a weapon.
