Kent State Women’s Lacrosse Battles Hard but Falls to Detroit Mercy in Exciting Showdown

In a thrilling contest held at Dix Stadium, the Kent State women’s lacrosse team faced off against Detroit Mercy on March 23, 2025. Despite a valiant effort, the Flashes fell short with a final score of 13-10. This loss brings Kent State’s season record to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in Mid-American Conference (MAC) play.

Game Highlights: A Roller Coaster Ride

The match started with both teams exhibiting incredible energy and determination. The first quarter showcased a competitive back-and-forth battle, with Kent State managing to take a 3-2 lead at the end of the period. Allie Lee and Lizzie Lundeen kickstarted the scoring for the Flashes, putting them ahead 2-1. Morgan Halli then added to the excitement with a crucial last-minute goal, finishing the first quarter on a high note.

As the second quarter rolled in, things began to heat up even more for Kent State. The team opened with a bang, netting three consecutive goals, stretching their lead to 6-2. Zayda Crumpton started off the second quarter well with her first goal, followed closely by Riley LaVogue, who found the back of the net with an assist from Katlyn Binnix. To cap off the quarter, Binnix herself scored a goal, further solidifying the Flashes’ momentum.

As the first half came to a close, Detroit Mercy managed to respond with a goal, leaving Kent State with a 6-3 lead at halftime. However, Detroit Mercy wasn’t done yet.

Third Quarter Twists and Turns

As the third quarter began, Detroit Mercy pressed on and quickly scored to narrow the gap to 6-4. But just when it seemed like the Titans were gaining traction, Crumpton struck again, bringing the score to 7-4 in favor of Kent State.

The Titans answered back late in the third quarter, but Lundeen soon put Kent State back on the board with a goal of her own, maintaining an 8-5 lead. Unfortunately, that lead would soon evaporate as Detroit Mercy went on a remarkable run, netting six unanswered goals to take a commanding 11-8 lead with just eight minutes remaining in the game.

Final Minutes: The Flashes Keep Fighting

11-9. Yet, Detroit Mercy would not relent, responding with two more goals, extending their lead to 13-9. Halli brought a glimmer of hope for the Flashes with a second goal just before the final horn, and the game ended with a score of 13-10.

Looking Ahead

Despite the disappointing loss, Kent State has a chance to regroup during a ten-day break before facing off against Mercyhurst in a non-conference game on April 2, 2025. Lacrosse fans won’t have to wait too long for more action, as a highly anticipated rivalry match against Akron is set for April 6, 2025.
