Detroit

The investigation into the tragic death of 17-year-old London Thomas remains ongoing as two suspects are currently in custody. Thomas was reported missing on April 8, having last been seen alive on April 5 when she was dropped off at her boyfriend’s house in Inkster. Her cellphone last pinged in Westland on April 6, which prompted her family to reach out to law enforcement after concerns grew about her disappearance.

Thomas’ body was discovered on April 11, located in an SUV parked near a residence on Millard Street in Southfield. Identification of her body required the use of dental records, underscoring the severity of the situation. Since the tragic discovery, two individuals have been detained; however, their identities have not been released, and they have not yet been formally charged with any crime. The attorney representing the suspects has argued that their clients’ rights are being infringed upon, citing that they have been held without charges beyond the legal timeframe.

According to Michigan law, suspects can be held for a maximum of 72 hours without formal charges, excluding weekends and holidays. The attorney claims that this time limit has already been surpassed, raising concerns about the legality of the suspects’ detention. The investigation is being led by the Michigan State Police, who have stated that there is currently no new information regarding the case.

A spokesperson for Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has confirmed that as of now, no warrant requests have been made for prosecuting anyone in connection with Thomas’ death. Meanwhile, her family, devastated by the loss, received updates from authorities concerning the circumstances surrounding London’s tragic fate.

Since her disappearance, family members and community locals have rallied together, actively searching for Thomas and organizing vigils in her memory, calling for justice. Members of the community have described Thomas as an outspoken teenager with a profound love for music and hair styling. During the search effort, her father mobilized a community search party to assist in locating her.

Despite the active investigation, no allegations have been directed by Thomas’ family toward any specific individuals. However, online discussions among community members have surfaced various allegations regarding possible suspects. The search for the teenager involved extensive assistance from multiple agencies, including the FBI and local police departments.

Family members have expressed their desire for urgent and serious charges against those found responsible for Thomas’ death. In recognition of the ongoing investigation, Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for any information that may lead to elucidating the circumstances of London’s disappearance and untimely death.

Tragically, London Thomas would have celebrated her 18th birthday in just a few weeks. As the investigation continues, her family and community remain united in pursuit of justice and answers.
