Lansing, Michigan – The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has taken significant enforcement action against six online gambling platforms operating without state authorization, marking a critical step in protecting consumers from potential risks associated with unregulated gambling activities.

The MGCB issued cease-and-desist letters to the platforms known as Crypto Slots, NitroBetting, NewVegas, Las Vegas USA Casino, Grand Rush Casino, and Slotgard Casino. This action aims to safeguard Michigan consumers from financial exploitation, identity theft, and deceptive gaming practices.

Operating without a license is a violation of Michigan laws governing internet gaming and sports betting. The MGCB has determined that all six sites were in breach of the Lawful Internet Gaming Act, the Lawful Sports Betting Act, and relevant provisions of the Michigan Penal Code.

Henry Williams, the MGCB Executive Director, highlighted the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that unauthorized operators expose players to significant risks, including the potential for unfair play and the absence of consumer protections. The cease-and-desist letters mandate these illicit operations to cease activities targeting Michigan users immediately.

The platforms have 14 days to comply with the cease-and-desist order. Failure to do so may result in further legal actions, coordinated with the Michigan Department of Attorney General. The MGCB is committed to upholding the integrity of regulated gambling practices within the state.

Consumers who engage with these unlicensed platforms face numerous risks. For instance, players may win money with no guarantee of payout, expose themselves to potentially rigged games, and lack legal recourse for fraud or other disputes. Unauthorized sites do not provide the necessary safeguards, and as such, players are left vulnerable to various forms of exploitation.

As part of a wider crackdown on illegal online gambling, the MGCB has ramped up enforcement activities in recent months. The agency has issued numerous cease-and-desist letters and is actively investigating other potential violations. Increased vigilance in monitoring online gaming activities reflects the MGCB’s dedication to ensuring a secure gambling environment for Michigan residents.

Residents are advised to verify the licensing of gaming sites by visiting the official state website at Michigan.gov/MGCB. Individuals are also encouraged to report any illegal gambling sites they encounter, ensuring that the state’s regulatory framework remains effective in curtailing unlawful operations.

This enforcement action comes at a time of significant growth in the state’s legal online gambling market. Reports indicate that online operators generated $285.2 million in gross receipts in June 2025, representing a 24.9% year-over-year increase. The surge in legal gambling revenue has prompted the MGCB to bolster its enforcement measures, making this action one of the most extensive to date.

The MGCB’s ongoing efforts also serve as a reminder to the public of the importance of engaging only with licensed platforms to avoid potential risks associated with unregulated online gambling. As investigations continue and further action is anticipated, consumers are being urged to proceed with caution in their online gaming activities.
