A high-speed motorcycle crash in Detroit early Saturday morning left a 20-year-old male rider from Eastpointe with serious injuries. The incident occurred at 1:25 a.m. on July 26, 2025, on the ramp from eastbound I-96 to northbound I-75.
The Detroit Regional Communication Center received multiple calls alerting them to the crash. A witness at the scene reported that the motorcyclist was traveling at a dangerously high speed, approaching 100 mph, when he lost control of the motorcycle while navigating a curve.
Initial reports indicate that the motorcycle veered off the roadway to the right and struck a concrete wall at the top of the elevated ramp. Following the impact, both the rider and the motorcycle fell over the concrete wall, rolling down the steep grass embankment below. The rider came to a stop on the left shoulder of northbound I-75, while the motorcycle landed on the right shoulder.
Emergency responders transported the injured rider to a local hospital where he is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries. Authorities closed northbound I-75 for approximately two hours as they conducted an investigation into the accident.
According to the Michigan State Police (MSP) Second District, the witness’s account of the events was critical in understanding the circumstances leading to the crash. The rapid speed of the motorcycle and the loss of control contributed significantly to the severity of the incident.
MSP First Lieutenant Mike Shaw underscored the necessity of rigorous training and practice for motorcycle operation. He pointed out that many similar crashes involve riders exceeding their limits or not adhering to traffic regulations.
