The iconic Michigan Central Station in Detroit is set to add a new luxury hotel, NoMad Detroit, by early 2027. With approximately 180 guest rooms, including 30 suites, the hotel aims to revitalize the Corktown community while preserving the station’s historical significance. Features include a wellness center, an elegant restaurant, and a blend of graffiti art from local artists. The hotel is designed to be a hub for innovation, community, and commerce, further enhancing Detroit’s hospitality scene.
Detroit is set to welcome a new luxury hotel, NoMad Detroit, located in the historic Michigan Central Station, which is expected to open its doors in early 2027. This project will see the upper floors of the iconic train station, specifically floors 14 to 18, transformed into approximately 180 guest rooms, including 30 luxurious suites. This marks an important milestone, as it will be the first time the top five floors of the station will be occupied since its operational days.
The NoMad Detroit hotel is part of a larger effort to revitalize the Corktown community, with the aim of attracting both local residents and guests from around the world. The hotel is affiliated with NoMad, a luxury lifestyle brand under Hilton’s umbrella, which is known for its unique offerings in various cities, including New York, Las Vegas, and London. A new NoMad hotel is also scheduled to open in Singapore in 2027.
NoMad Detroit will offer a wellness center on its third floor, featuring a gym and a potential spa, intended to enhance the guest experience. On the ground floor, visitors will find an elegant restaurant and bar situated in the station’s historic carriage house. The restaurant aims to combine luxury with accessibility, accompanied by award-winning dining options and a vibrant bar scene.
As part of the hotel’s interior design, efforts will be made to preserve graffiti and the artwork of Detroit artists, creating a blend of history and contemporary culture. The exterior clock face of the carriage house will also be restored and reinstalled, further honoring the station’s historical significance.
According to the leadership at Michigan Central, the hotel is intended to draw a diverse community together. Josh Sirefman, CEO of Michigan Central, emphasized the vision for the hotel to be more than just an accommodation facility—it is designed to serve as a hub for innovation, community, and commerce.
In a competitive selection process that included 16 finalists, NoMad was chosen for its creative vision and its experience in transforming distinctive spaces into vibrant locales. The hotel aims to offer accessible luxury, although specific room rates have not yet been established. The partnership between Ford Motor Co. and NoMad reflects a commitment to celebrating Detroit’s rich history and cultural heritage.
The Michigan Central Station reopened to the public in June 2024, following extensive renovations after Ford acquired the property for $90 million in 2018. Since then, over 300,000 visitors have toured the station, a clear indication of the public interest in its revitalization. The upcoming construction of the NoMad Hotel is scheduled to begin later this year, with the hotel being a focal point of a broader strategic vision for Michigan Central Station.
With plans in place to enhance the community experience, the NoMad hotel will not only provide overnight accommodations but will also cater to local diners, making it a significant addition to Detroit’s hospitality offerings.
