Romulus, Michigan – On July 22, 2025, Sheetz will celebrate the grand opening of its second store in Michigan, which is located at 29225 Smith Road in Romulus. The event will be open to the public and will feature exciting activities, including drawings for gift cards and speeches from key figures such as Sheetz President and CEO Travis Sheetz and Romulus Mayor Robert McCraight.
The grand opening ceremony is part of Sheetz’s broader plan to invest in the Michigan market by aiming to establish 50 to 60 stores across southeast Michigan. This specific grand opening event will also include a food drive, encouraging attendees to bring non-perishable food items in exchange for gifts.
At the event, attendees can look forward to two separate $250 gift card drawings scheduled for 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will not only mark the official opening of the new store but also celebrate the company’s efforts to integrate into the local community, following the positive response after the launch of its first Michigan store located at 33380 Wick Road in Romulus, which opened on August 27, 2024.
Travis Sheetz has expressed enthusiasm for the community’s reaction to their first store. He indicated that there is a strong demand among residents for more options and emphasized Sheetz’s commitment to connecting with the community through a customer-based approach. The newly opened store will operate 24 hours a day and is expected to create approximately 40 jobs for local residents. Positions at Sheetz start at $16 per hour, with an increase to $17 for overnight shifts, while supervisor roles begin at $20 per hour.
In addition to the Romulus store, Sheetz has plans to expand further into metro Detroit, including prospective locations in Taylor, Warren, Macomb Township, and Eastpointe. However, some proposed store locations have encountered opposition from local businesses and residents who express concerns about increased traffic and competition.
While such opposition is a common challenge for companies entering new markets, Sheetz’s leadership remains optimistic about developing strong community ties and fulfilling local needs. The food drive feature of the upcoming grand opening exemplifies this approach, as Sheetz aims to make contributions to those in need within the community.
As part of its customer engagement strategy, Sheetz has also offered promotional initiatives, including a free coffee promotion on Christmas, to enhance customer loyalty and encourage community participation.
The grand opening event on July 22 is expected to draw a large crowd, providing a platform for community members to connect, celebrate the launch, and take part in giving back through the organized food drive. This significant milestone reflects Sheetz’s continued commitment to growth in Michigan and the importance of community collaboration.
