DETROIT, Mich. — Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell opened his postgame news conference by dedicating a game ball to radio play-by-play broadcaster Dan Miller after the death of Miller wife, Cynthia Cindy Miller.
Cindy Miller died Saturday, Oct. 10, at age 63 following a battle with cancer, according to an obituary by L.J. Griffith Funeral Home. The couple had been married 33 years. Miller, the voice of the Lions for more than 20 years, did not travel with the team or call Sunday game against the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, Ariz.
Campbell held up a football after the Lions road win and said the ball was for Dan Miller and his family. Campbell called Miller salt of the earth and said he was glad Cindy was at peace, adding that the team loves Dan.
Quarterback Jared Goff also offered condolences in a postgame interview, saying the team was thinking about Dan, that his voice is Lions football, and that Miller is part of the Lions family. Goff said he talks with Miller weekly.
Detroit Tigers play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti filled in for Miller on the radio broadcast. Benetti said thoughts were with Dan after the loss of his wife of 33 years and called Miller one of the most sincere people he has met in Detroit and a fantastic voice of the Lions for more than two decades.
