DETROIT, Mich. — The Detroit Pistons begin their follow-up to a 60-win season Tuesday when the Boston Celtics come to Little Caesars Arena, with tipoff set for 3 p.m. ET and the game on NBC and Peacock.
It is the first game of the league’s opening-day tripleheader. Detroit went 60-22 last season and was the top seed in the Eastern Conference before Cleveland eliminated it in a seven-game East semifinal series.
The Pistons took three of four regular-season games from Boston last year, and every one of those meetings was within three points inside the final three minutes. The Celtics finished 56-26 and open with Jayson Tatum back in the lineup.
Detroit spent the offseason chasing outside shooting after ranking 17th in 3-point accuracy but 29th in attempts. Isaiah Joe arrived in a trade with Oklahoma City, Taurean Prince and Gary Harris came over from Milwaukee, and John Collins signed a three-year, $51 million contract.
The club also locked up its young core, giving Jalen Duren a five-year, $200 million extension and Ausar Thompson a five-year, $155 million deal. Isaiah Stewart, Tobias Harris and Caris LeVert are gone. The Pistons visit Miami on Friday.
