DETROIT, Mich. — Drivers who use I-94 west of Detroit should not expect the construction zone to clear out this winter. The shift that moved traffic onto the westbound side between Wayne Road and Oakwood Boulevard is set to stay until late summer 2027.
Once that phase ends, traffic will cross to the eastbound side so crews can rebuild the westbound lanes, and more ramp closures are expected. The Restore 94 project switched eastbound traffic again on Saturday, Oct. 31, and closed the eastbound exit to Wayne Road until July 2027, sending drivers to Vining Road at Exit 197 instead.
Inside the city, next year brings single-lane closures on I-94 from 2nd Avenue, just west of I-75, to Conner on the east side for bridge and resurfacing work. Ramps from eastbound Davison onto I-75 in both directions will also be shut for roughly two months.
There is some good news in Oakland County, where I-696 eastbound from M-10 to I-75 should reopen before the year is out. Crews return to I-696 in 2027 with two lanes each way from I-75 to Dequindre. In Macomb County, early work starts on I-94 from 8 Mile to 11 Mile ahead of a full rebuild in 2028.
