CANTON, Mich. — Organizers in Canton are hosting a No Kings: Vote Early community gathering on Saturday, Oct. 17, to help Plymouth, Canton and nearby residents make a plan before Michigan early voting begins.

The event is part of a national Vote Early Day of Action and is organized by Belleville Area Friends Indivisible. It welcomes participants from Belleville, Canton, Plymouth, Van Buren Township, Sumpter Township, Ypsilanti and surrounding communities.

Michigan early voting for the Nov. 3 general election runs Oct. 24 through Nov. 1 under the constitutionally mandated early voting period posted by the Secretary of State. Absentee ballots are already available, and the last day to register by mail or online is Oct. 19.

A brief opening program begins at 11 a.m. in front of the township building, with information tables on voter registration, what is on the ballot and ways to get involved. Organizers say the gathering is rain or shine on the sidewalk and lawn, with parking behind the township administration building and in Heritage Park.

Plymouth and Canton share the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools district, and local organizers say the push is aimed at making sure eligible voters understand early voting options before Election Day.
