DETROIT, Mich. — The Detroit Tigers reshaped their pitching staff for 2027 on Monday, keeping swingman Drew Anderson and parting ways with closer Kenley Jansen as the deadline for club option decisions arrived.
Anderson will earn $10 million next season after Detroit exercised his club option. The deal amounts to a $3 million raise after a 2026 season in which the right-hander worked 49 games, made 11 starts, threw 108 innings, struck out 114 batters and finished with a 3.67 ERA.
The club declined its $12 million option on Jansen, who now becomes a free agent. Detroit still owes the veteran closer a $2 million buyout, which leaves the Tigers committed to $12 million total across the two decisions.
The Tigers also brought back reliever Jacob Waguespack on a one-year major league contract worth $1.3 million for 2027. Waguespack turns 33 on Thursday, Nov. 5.
Every club had a five-day window once the World Series ended to settle its option decisions, and the Tigers used the window to set their 40-man roster heading into the offseason.
