Damaged car after a crash

WARREN, Mich. — A 12-year-old bicyclist was seriously hurt Thursday after a pickup truck struck and briefly dragged the child near Van Dyke Avenue and Meadow Avenue in Warren.

The Warren Police Department said a Dodge pickup was turning south onto Van Dyke from Meadow when it hit the rider. The child became pinned under the truck and was pulled a short distance before the driver stopped.

Warren firefighters freed the child from under the vehicle and took the rider to a metro Detroit hospital. Police said the injuries were serious but the child was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive.

Officers said the driver stayed at the scene and worked with investigators. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected as factors, according to the department.

A stretch of Van Dyke was closed for about two and a half hours while the Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team worked the scene. That inquiry remains open.
