SEATTLE, Wash. — The Detroit Red Wings open their swing through the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada on Tuesday against the Seattle Kraken, bringing a four-game point streak west with them.
Detroit sits at 3-3-2 after rallying past San Jose 4-3 in a shootout Saturday at Little Caesars Arena. That game closed a three-game homestand and gave the Red Wings their first comeback win of the season from behind in the third period.
Goaltender John Gibson stopped 31 shots through regulation and overtime, then turned aside all three San Jose tries in the shootout. Emmitt Finnie had a goal and an assist, and defenseman Justin Faulk scored his second goal of the year.
Seattle comes in at 5-3-1 and is 1-1-0 on home ice. The Kraken already have one win over Detroit this season, a 6-3 decision in which Frederick Gaudreau scored twice.
Discipline bears watching: Detroit has been whistled 38 times so far, an average of 4.8 a game and the 10th-highest total in the NHL. The Red Wings will be without Mason Appleton and J.T. Compher, both out with undisclosed injuries, and Marco Kasper, who has an upper-body injury.
Seattle is missing Ryan Lindgren, Jake O’Brien and Jacob Melanson, while Brandon Montour is listed as day to day with a lower-body injury.
