DETROIT, Mich. — Former President Barack Obama is in Detroit on Saturday to campaign for Michigan Democrats on the same day the state opens early in-person voting.
Obama is set to appear with Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for an open U.S. Senate seat, along with Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and other party candidates. El-Sayed faces Republican Mike Rogers in the Senate race.
The rally starts at 5 p.m. It has already reached capacity, so the Michigan Democratic Party and Obama plan to stream it online on their social media accounts.
The visit opens a busy campaign weekend in the state. On Sunday, President Donald Trump is due in Port Huron.
Michigan voters can cast ballots in person early for nine straight days starting Saturday, with the window closing Nov. 1, two days before the Nov. 3 election.
