Sterling Heights police and students drop a school-bus safety rap

Published October 4, 2026 at 6:10 pm | By Oswaldo Ross, Staff Reporter

School bus

Sterling Heights police want drivers to stop for school buses, and they set the reminder to a familiar beat.

The department, Sterling Heights Television, and students in the theater and advanced studio film program at Henry Ford II High School released a video called The Real Miss Daisy. It parodies Eminem’s The Real Slim Shady.

The point is simple: when a school bus is stopped with its stop arm out, drivers are not supposed to pass it.

Lieutenant Aaron Susalla of the Sterling Heights Police Department is the officer who wrote the parody lyrics, and he appears in the video as the rapper. Susalla said the group wanted to create something people would remember, something fun, local, and attention-grabbing that still carries a critical message. He said a few extra seconds of patience behind the wheel can make all the difference for a child crossing the street or stepping off a school bus. The department hopes the video gives drivers a reason to pause, pay attention, and always stop for the bus.

The video is posted on the City of Sterling Heights social channels and on the SHTV YouTube channel.
