DETROIT, Mich. — Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has thrown 12 touchdown passes without an interception through five games, a stretch only he and Russell Wilson have matched in NFL history.
Goff directed the Lions offense in a 45-21 road performance against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Oct. 11, at State Farm Stadium as Detroit improved to 3-2. After a slow start with punts on the first three possessions, the offense scored six touchdowns and a field goal on its next seven drives.
Running back Jahmyr Gibbs had 25 carries for 151 yards and two touchdowns plus five catches for 56 yards. Tight end Sam LaPorta had five catches for 88 yards and two critical fourth-down receptions. Coach Dan Campbell handed out game balls to LaPorta, Gibbs and rookie defensive back Keith Abney II after the contest.
Campbell told the locker room to keep standards high and not accept mediocrity, saying the team answered back but still has room to grow. The Lions have a bye in Week 6 before hosting the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Oct. 25, at Ford Field.
Special teams contributed punt returns from Tom Kennedy and Amon-Ra St. Brown, while Jake Bates remained perfect on field goals and extra points for the year. Detroit defense forced five Cardinals three-and-outs in the first half after allowing an opening drive touchdown.
