RIVERVIEW, Mich. — A motorcyclist is dead after fleeing a Wyandotte traffic stop and crashing at the end of a short, high-speed pursuit that crossed into Riverview.

Wyandotte Police Chief Archie Hamilton said one of his officers tried to pull the rider over, but the motorcycle took off and reached speeds over 100 mph while cutting into opposing lanes.

Authorities said the call started with a report of a motorcycle without a plate racing south on Biddle Avenue near 100 mph. Officers spotted it near Biddle and Spruce by Ford Avenue, tried to stop it, and the rider refused.

The pursuit moved into Riverview and ended near the railroad tracks on West Jefferson around the 18200 block by Payne Street, where the rider lost control.

Responding officers found the man unresponsive and medics rushed him to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries. His identity has not been released.

Wyandotte police handed the crash case to the Michigan State Police. Hamilton called the rider young and said people should stop for officers because fleeing endangers everyone on the road.
