DETROIT, Mich. — Detroit voters who do not want to wait for Election Day can now cast a ballot at one of eight early voting centers spread around the city, which opened their doors Saturday.

Statewide, the early in-person voting window runs from Oct. 24 through Nov. 1, giving residents nine days to pick a time that fits their schedule. City Clerk Janice Winfrey spent opening day encouraging Detroiters to take part, telling residents that every vote counts and that the many days on offer make it simple to fit voting into the week.

Voting at an early site works much like a normal precinct visit. A voter fills out the ballot, slips it into a secrecy sleeve and feeds it into the tabulator.

The centers include the City Clerk office at 2 Woodward Ave., the Department of Elections at 2978 W. Grand Blvd., the Northwest Activities Center on Meyers Road, Farwell Recreation Center on East Outer Drive, Clark Park and the Adams Butzel Recreation Complex on Lyndon. Two Wayne County Community College District campuses, Northwest on West Outer Drive and Eastern on Conner, are also on the list.

Registered voters can also vote absentee in person at the clerk office through Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. Many of the early sites also have ballot drop boxes, and the city has more drop boxes set up in each of its council districts.
