DETROIT, Mich. — Young performers from Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit are packing for West Africa. The group leaves Oct. 29 for Dakar, Senegal, where it will represent the city during the 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
Members plan to perform and also lead workshops while they are in Dakar. It will be the first international tour for the company in more than 13 years, and it lands at a historic moment, since the Games are the first Olympic event ever held in Africa.
Mosaic was founded in 1992 to fill gaps in arts education across Metro Detroit and had 25 young artists in its first year. Today hundreds of students from more than 50 area schools come through its First, Second and Main Stage programs each year, training as actors, singers and stage technicians.
The organization says its ensemble members put in about 2,500 contact hours a season on arts training, college readiness and leadership, and that 97% of its young artists go on to be accepted into college.
